Epic trenchcoat cloak of Azzuraness
The Professor was brought into reality rather rudely, thanks to a certain panther of hers. The brute crept into her office, keeping perfectly silent so that even her other companion animal never aroused. Once in the room, the ebon feline leapt with a cub-like snarl, landing squarely on the bed and right on top of the unconscious figure beneath the sheets. She cried out, but was quickly comforted by the hyper-excited feline nuzzling and purring like any other cat would. The office erupted in noise since Havok, her Shepherd, jumped to his paws and began barking. “Alright alright, enough of you and your foolishness this early.” She pushed the sleek black head away and then shoved the panther off. The animal pair began to wrestle and play before darting out into the classroom.
She groaned, sitting up and looking at the clock and cursed. There was 10 minutes before her class had to start and she’d just woken up! The past 3 nights straight she’d been out and about- The Forbidden Forest, Hogsmeade, anywhere she had to go. She didn’t even remember what time she got back. In a flash she had the sheets thrown over and went straight to the shower. Once that was taken care of she used magic to clean up the quarters a bit. She glanced outside, only a couple students were here. Ah, 7th years. Most of them liked to take their time. She dressed herself in a black tank and form fitting black leather pants, every article of clothing hugging her lean body nicely. Meanwhile, her boots were putting themselves on, high- calf, and were just finishing the lacing when she took charge and secured it with the buckles. She pulled on her trench coat cloak, pulling it snugly and flipping her hair out. Leaving the coat open, she strode out of her quarters and down the short hallway into the classroom, silently resealing the room.
Now nearly all of her students were either here or arriving. Since she had 7th years right now there were supposed to be no more than 20 for this class, and most of them were Slytherin and Ravenclaws. Later on in the day she taught the remaining 7th years. Kaeus trailed behind the last student, the frighteningly giant black panther being the last into the room and causing the doors to slam shut behind him. He lifted his lips and growled at the students in his way, even lowering his head to snap at their knees if they didn’t move away fast enough as he made his way towards the back where Azzura was. Once there, he nuzzled her hip and plopped himself against the far end of the wall, tail flicking absently as he gazed at the class through surprisingly intelligent emerald eyes. Azzura leaned against the podium, waiting for the class to quiet down. She’d already had them the first 3 days of school they already knew how things worked. The Kattalakis name and crest was carved into the front of the podium, but mirroring it from the other side of the wood, hidden, was the Black crest.
“Well now, let’s get started. Anyone remember what we were supposed to go over today?” She asked, falling into the Britt accent smoothly. A few students raised their hands but Professor Kattalakis ignored them. “Can anyone remind the class of what we’ve gone over so far?” She followed, tucking a stray stand of her dark hair behind her ear before straightening up. “Yes, Mister Morgan?” She called on the unexpecting ravenclaw. A pureblood boy with slicked blonde hair and dark eyes, “Professor we’ve just went over the stuff we learned last year kinda.” He shrugged, shooting a smile at the professor. Sharp blue eyes bore into his and forced him to look away and wipe the smile off. She kept the annoyance off her face, expressing characteristic cool and collected. “Eloquently put Morgan, I’m sure you’ve done your House well with that explanation.” She replied, sarcasm layering her tone as she stepped away from the podium and began a slow pace. Previous class he'd subtley challenged her, now she was returning the favor.
She went into a small lecture over Nonverbal magic, nothing too in depth; the basics, the theory, and the general goal and idea. Morgan, however, took it upon himself to send glares at her whenever she caught his eye, and then write notes when he thought she wasn’t looking. Right before the end of the lecture she snapped around and pointed her wand at Morgan, silently using Levicorpus to levitate him in the air and gangling him upside down. The class erupted in gasps to snickers, and Kaeus, her panther, surged forward as if this was a new game and he had to claw at the suspended toy. “Come back Kaeus, he’s not for you.” He licked his lips wistfully before returning to his position. When Morgan began shouting obscenities she silenced him with magic.
“And this class is why nonverbal spells are so valuable. No warning. Just work on your poker face and maybe you’d even attain the advantage.” She dropped him, but also used ‘spongify’ nonverbally to make sure he landed on something soft rather than the floor. He was still unable to speak, but he picked himself up and whatever he’d dropped with as much dignity as he could muster. Lesson learned, and he returned to his seat seething but humbled.
“Now nonverbal spells and charms are usually much weaker than those said aloud. But it’s still managing the charm at all that’s the hardest, and then practice follows. I want everyone to start now and practice charms you’ve used in your first two years, nonverbally. Stick to the Hover Charm first and then once accomplished use Incendio to finish things off. Feathers have been supplied- no speaking.” With a wave of her wand silver feathers appeared in front of everyone. “Guess Morgan has that under control.” She said with a trace of humor, the corner of her lips pulling up. She walked over to him and leane din his ear for the enxt part. “Release yourself Jared, you can leave the feather alone if you cannot multitask.” And with that she walked towards the back of the room and lowered herself down on a comfortable forest green single-person lounge chair, crossing her legs and watching the class. If anyone needed help, they knew what to do. She magick’d Kaeus into a doze, knowing a class full of feathers would be too much for his self-control.
