The last few weeks leading up to the return of the students to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is stressful for most people - professors and students alike. Most teachers are clamoring to submit class requirements and the kids, along with their parents are running around trying to make sure that they had everything that needs to be taken to school. One would think that after a few years, they would have come up with a routine to make things easier but no; it just gets crazier and crazier.
For Professor Leira Crowthorn, though, these same weeks are full of anticipation and excitement. Her work and her students have become her life and she couldn't wait for term to start so she can, once again, throw all that she had to her classes and forget the fact that she was alone and lonely.
Today was the first day of term and Leira, to her dismay, had the first two periods of the week off. So, instead of being hauled up in the Astronomy Tower as she usually was, she decided to sit at the Hufflepuff Table at the Great Hall, making herself available to first years from her house that may need help. She had parchment that held that afternoon's list of students. She had a goblet of pumpkin juice at a safe but reachable distance and was, at that moment, sorting paperwork.
The noise on the Great Hall was relatively low and it was very relaxing to be back where she knew she was home. Here and there, she would hear quick steps made by older students who woke up later than they should have, thinking they can grab a quick bite and take one of the short cuts and figuring out that they had stayed at their table longer than they should have. One, however, seemed to have stopped right in from of her and Leira looked up from the third roll of parchment she was going through that morning to see who it was.
