Gavin kept his hands slowly running down and back up her back. That constant, steady feeling was definitely a comforting one, he’d already known that. But, not only was it comforting him, calming him down because of the intense news he had just heard… it was also calming Adriane down as well. He could tell as she let out a sigh and his neck didn’t feel as wet. It wasn’t like it mattered… he was just glad that she was starting to calm down a little.
”Oh Gavin. I….I watched her do it. She…Corinne…she…”
Gavin furrowed his brow. There was more? Gavin released her a bit as she started to back up to look him in the eye. Gavin tilted his head to the side slightly as he waited for her to speak, taking in her appearance. Even with tear-stained cheeks she was still beautiful.
”She looked at me like this. Just like I’m looking at you when she did it. Of course she was farther away…but…I don’t…”
Adriane’s eyes welled up again, and Gavin was yet again speechless. Sure, he watched his Grandfather die through Avada Kedavra through the window… but he didn’t watch his Grandfather kill himself. Adriane had it so much worse… Gavin could empathize… but he couldn’t tell her he knew how she felt.
”I don’t want you to let go. Please don’t let go.”
When she pulled back in to him, Gavin put his arms around her again. He pulled her so close that he could almost touch his sides with his finger tips. He didn’t want to squeeze her, of course. But he wanted to be close to her. There had to be something there that the need to hold on to her was so prominent. There had to be! Your stomach doesn’t tie up in knots and make it’s way to your throat to clog your words for no reason, does it? ”I don’t want to let go. I never had…”

Oh how she wished Gavin would stop looking at her like that! It made it even harder for her to speak. He was so close to her and he could probably see ever single small imperfection on her face. Every tiny smear and fleck of makeup disrupted by her tears. Just everything. She felt transparent before him and she wasn't used to the feeling. Not when she weak. It had to be a hideous site. She knew there was nothing he could say to make everything better. But he could just be here. He could hold her like she wanted. Hold her and encase her from the world around her so she didn't have to deal. Plus, she could close her eyes and breath him in and make believe that he was actually her boyfriend or something and that he really did like her. So that's what she would do. Adriane pulled herself to him and he hugged her so tight around him that it almost hurt. But, it was a good kind of hurt and she just succumbed to it, feeling nearly numb. Numb but at the same time..safe and protected and cared for...was that normal? for a friend? ”I don’t want to let go. I never had…”She was confused. Did that mean....no, no. She was just being silly. That's what she told herself. He was just being supportive like a good friend. Gavin couldn't mean that as anything more. He didn't feel that way about her. They were friends. Good friends. Best friends. THE best. Her stomach turned in on itself and her heart did this weird palpitation that made her swallow hard and it wasn't from being sad. Adriane didn't necessarily want to move. Besides Gavin had quite the hold on her and like he said, he didn't want to let go. Her heart jumped. She picked her head up from where she had buried it by his neck. And in one swift motion, she picked up her head and placed the softest kiss upon his cheek. And she waited there, a confused and apprehensive look upon her face. What was to happen?

Gavin liked that he was the only person that Adriane would go to. That just proved right there that he was a true friend, and she considered him to be a true friend. True friends hug each other when they’re sad, and they are there for the other party, and they don’t let go when they aren’t ready. Okay, maybe that wasn’t a true friend right there. But that was Gavin’s opinion. He wasn’t ready to let go and he just assumed by Adriane’s slow, steadying breaths that she didn’t want him to leg go yet either. He did loosen his grip on her, though. Gavin had a feeling he might be squishing her.
Yes, what Gavin had said to Adriane was a revelation. It was a revelation that he liked her. He liked her as… more than just Adriane, his best friend in the entire world. He liked her even though throughout the entire school year she was the perfect b!tch and Gavin just didn’t care at this moment. He was there for her right now, and he’d always be there for her. That’s just how it was going to be. And it didn’t matter that she was mean to him, because it was probably just a show, anyway. Well, Gavin was starting to think so, the way she clinged to him. And besides, it didn’t matter. She could have as many boyfriends as she wanted… not one of them would treat her the way he treated her. And that was a fact. The two of them had a…
Gavin pressed his cheek to her head again gently. She smelled wonderful… Her hair was a mix of some different floral scents… and nothing floral could compare to the way her hair smelled. It was… just not the…
What the…?
Did Adriane just kiss Gavin? On the cheek?! But still! Gavin didn’t know what to say. He didn’t know what to do! He just… didn’t know! So he stood there, looking at Adriane, a confused yet completely shocked look stayed put on his face. ”I…. uh….” Yeah, that was about all he could muster. This was too much. Was she grieving? Was this a way for her to make her forget about what happened to her sister? Gavin definitely did not want to be that guy… just hooking up with her because she wanted something to forget something else… that guy that just hooked up with her because of that and knew, just KNEW that she was completely out of his league… yeah. He wasn’t going to do anything. If she wasn’t just looking for something to…
Gavin was probably in too far over his head. Maybe the kiss was just a thank you? For being so nice? Yeah. He was being nice, wasn’t he? Taking care of her when she was sad, and holding her when she was crying… Yeah, he was being a good friend. A great friend. And she was merely thanking him for doing so.

”I…. uh….”Uhhhh what? Immediately Adriane turned red in the face and Adriane wasn't the blushing type of girl. No, she hardly had anything to ever be embarrassed about. And if she did have something to be embarrassed about, she was very good at hiding it. But, she didn't really see this coming. She had thought Gavin meant he liked her and she had liked him for so many years. Maybe even before they went to Hogwarts? Adriane couldn't remember. It had been that long. They had gone through everything together. Puberty had been especially awkward for Adriane given her most notable developments. And Gavin was one of the few boys in the school who acted like he barely noticed. Maybe he was gay? He hadn't had another girlfriend. Or maybe he just didn't like her like that and Adriane was so conceited to fancy him a homosexual. It was amazing the way she felt when he had spoken those words about not letting her go. Now, she felt as if he had just reached down and punched her in the gut. Her stomach tensed as well as the rest of her body. He just looked at her shocked and confused. Confused as to why she did that because he clearly did not like her and she mistook his words. And shocked for the same reason? Yes, that had to be it. Adriane's throat felt dry and her mouth hung open slightly, eyes wide. And then she looked hurt, sliding from his arms and taking two steps back. Adriane crossed her arms over her chest, hugging herself lightly. "Is this payback, Gavin? Making me feel stupid?" Her voice was soft, hurt. Adriane's eyes once again fogged with tears. She should have never told Gavin her secret. He just made a fool out of her. Sure nobody was around, but it felt like it! In fact, it was worse because she would never have let anyone else see her like this. And then she let Gavin and he made her think....Years and years and years of secret pining were over. And then the utterance of ”I…. uh….” slapped her in the face.

What does one say to that? What do they say when the girl that they’d just had a revelation that they liked kisses them on the cheek and you just don’t have any f*cking idea what they did it for? The closest assumption was that she was using him for comfort purposes. That was it, wasn’t it? It had to be, because… it just didn’t make sense otherwise. A girl like her would never be into a guy like him. It just didn’t happen.
And then she pulled away from him, to which he let her go. Yeah… he did. He always did. That was one thing about himself that he hated… the letting go part. He learned over the years that you just needed to let go to keep things the way they were. Gavin wasn’t one for change… but a change in their relationship might be for the better…
”Is this payback, Gavin? Making me feel stupid?”
Making her feel stupid? What exactly was she talking about? That didn’t make any sense! Why would he ever want to make her feel stupid?! She’d just told him that her sister killed herself and she watched it happen. That was the last thing he ever wanted to do! What kind of person did she think he was?! ”I… uh…” there it was again! Gavin quickly ran a hand through his hair, turning away slightly so that she couldn’t see the color that had begun to rise in his cheeks once more. ”I didn’t mean to make you feel stupid, if that is how you feel…”
Gavin turned back to Adriane. He didn’t know what to do or what to say… So he reached out for her again. ”Adriane… I just didn’t understand…” That was the truth… he definitely didn’t know… he still didn’t know… but maybe if he tried…? Yeah. He’d try that.
Gavin took a couple steps forward as she didn’t come back to his arms. Gavin dropped his left arm and put his right hand on her face. ”I hope this is what you were really aiming for…” Confidence. That was all he needed. Which is why he looked at her icy blue eyes for a moment before leaning down and pressing his lips to hers… quickly, and softly… as… he hadn’t ever kissed a girl before. ”I… uh…”Her brow furrowed more than it already was. Now she looked irritatedslashhurt. And how she looked was how she felt. Gavin was usually pretty good at articulating a normal sentence. He wasn't some kid who barely talked and owned a llama for a pet. No, Gavin had always been pretty good at communicating with Adriane, although Adriane was always more talkative and took the lead in conversation. Gavin politely plaid the other part, the quieter one in the friendship. They matched well. Her eyes narrowed, watching him closely as he ran a hand through his hair and turned away from her just a tad. What in the world was he doing? Well, it looked like he was hiding or trying to hide something about his appearance to her? Maybe he was laughing? No. No that was ridiculous. He was still obviously caught off guard for some reason. Maybe he was embarrassed. Yeah, maybe he was embarrassed for her. ”I didn’t mean to make you feel stupid, if that is how you feel…”"It is," she said, shortly. ”Adriane… I just didn’t understand…”She stood her ground, look at him with one eyebrow raised. Was he saying he got it now? He got that she liked him? Or was he under some false impression. And what was he going to do now if he knew that she liked him? What in Merlin's name was going on?! Well, he was coming closer and then he was putting his hand on her face. Adriane felt her chest tighten and her heart flutter simply. He was....going to.......kiss her? Maybe? Her eyes widened and she swallowed. Adriane was never like this with boys...but this wasn't a boy. This was Gavin whose blue eyes she was looking slightly up into. ”I hope this is what you were really aiming for…”It was the sweetest thing ever, Adriane used to guys pushing themselves on her. She barely had time to close her eyes before she felt his lips move away from hers again. She put a few finger lightly to her lips and then an unmistakable smile appeared there. "Almost exactly," she said before pressing her lips back against his, still just as innocently, as she reached up her hands to rest on his chest. A smile tugged at each corner of her mouth gently.

Gavin still didn’t understand. It was probably a long shot to even assume that she liked him. Definitely! But actually, when you think about it, it was a logical assumption. Because normally girls would go out looking for sympathy kisses when their boyfriend dumped them or they were having trouble in their relationship… it seemed that they just wanted to know that they could get something from someone at that time. But as far as Gavin thought, Adriane didn’t have a boyfriend. No… she was there as a single girl.
Did all of these thoughts go through Gavin’s head before he kissed her? No. Because that would be highly logical and something that a certain fifth year Ravenclaw might do. But Gavin was seventeen, a guy, and he didn’t want Adriane to be hurting. The only thought running through his head before he kissed her was how much he wanted to. Because… that was as logical as he could get in such a confused state.
When Gavin pulled back slightly, he didn’t move very far. His heart was beating a mile a minute and he felt as if he was going to be sick. He hadn’t gotten this feeling before… as he never kissed a girl. He would feel this way… maybe less intense if ever her hand brushed his or they bumped into one another… in fact, it was so minimal that he barely even noticed it anymore. But right now, at this moment, their faces so close that she could probably feel the heat emanating off of his… it was almost unbearable.
”Almost exactly.”
Gavin was about to raise an eyebrow, but he didn’t have enough time to even think about doing it before Adriane leaned back and kissed him again. She kissed him! It was like… a dream come true! The thought never really crossed his mind before… considering he didn’t even think it possible that it could ever happen. Not with Adriane, of course. He didn’t think he’d be alone forever… Next to forever, maybe. But this… this was amazing.

She pulled away from him softly, her stomach still all twisted in knots and that tickling feeling running through her chest which somehow made this small feeling of nauseousness pop up in her throat. Adriane had kissed a good number of boys, but the one that she had always wanted to kiss and never had the guts to..Well, he had just kissed her and she kissed him back. She didn't feel like a politely experienced 7th year, but rather that she was 11 again and barely knew anything about boys. She felt giddy. "Um...Gavin...Just so you know, I've like you forever okay?"And there is was. Out in the open. She was finally completely honest with pretty much the only person on Earth she felt able to be 100% honest with..well, except for the whole wanting to become a Death Eater (maybe) thing. BUT that did not even cross her mind right now. All she could think of was the giddy emotion basically radiating from her now and how she just wanted to kiss him again. Or she wanted him to kiss her again. Adriane was not even attuned to their surroundings anymore. "Oh and confidence looks good on you, by the way." She slid her hands up slowly from his chest to wrap around his neck once more. Adriane couldn't believe Gavin had made the first, yet sweet, move on her. She had never seen it coming. He not only kissed her but placed a line of words in front of it. And it wasn't some weird peck. He had taken the time to place a hand on her cheek and make her freak out inside before his lips even touched hers. Other boys hardly had that affect on her or took the time. ((my muse...dying maybe?....you know..bah))

There was so much going through Gavin’s head at the moment. He was still on the kick that maybe, just maybe, she was still kissing him to make herself feel better. But then there was the other side of him that maybe, just maybe, she actually wanted him to kiss her, as much as he wanted to kiss her. Maybe she…
”Um… Gavin…Just so you know, I’ve liked you forever okay?”
Alright, so that answers that question… Gavin merely smiled. He didn’t know what to say… he definitely hadn’t been expecting that one. Or anything remotely near to that… Nope, not at all. Adriane had always been to good for him. Too pretty, too high up on the totem pole… think of anything your heart might desire, and yeah, that’s how Gavin felt. He never thought in a million years that she might like him… which is why now, just before she told him that she actually liked her… he was ping-ponging thoughts that it was just… well… possibly a cruel joke. He wouldn’t put it past her… ”I… couldn’t even tell…” was all he could muster, his face turning a light shade of pink. He really couldn’t… she hid it rather well…
”Oh and confidence looks good on you, by the way.”
And with that, his face turned a brilliant shade of pink. Confidence? Technically… he just went with his gut on that one. He hadn’t exactly been like, “yeah, so, I’m going to kiss you whether you like it or not.” He had just… well… leaned in and did it. With some words too. Right now he couldn’t exactly remember what the words he had said to her were, though. He probably couldn’t remember what they were if he tried. Gavin’s mind was in a fit of knots, and he was still incredibly nervous even though everything… well, I guess not everything…but everything Adriane had to say was out in the open. Was it time to confess? Probably… ”You know, Adriane… If it wasn’t obvious, I liked you too… I just tried to hide it because I thought you were too good to be with the likes of me…”

”I… couldn’t even tell…”That was the whole point, she thought to herself with the smallest smile. So Adriane could deceive her best friend and she wasn't completely transparent. Was that a good thing? Adriane thought so. Why? Well, because she would have to deceive a lot of people now, wouldn't she? If she and Gavin were going to be an item, that is. Were they going to be an item? Is that what he wanted? Was he okay with it being secret? Would he be angry with her for keeping it secret? Could he keep the secret? Questions. Questions and more questions that were just slowly starting to breach the surface of her mind. Slowly. ”Oh and confidence looks good on you, by the way.”She smiled at him, sweetly. Adriane found it completely endearing the way he played shy. Well, Gavin wasn't playing. He hadn't ever had a girlfriend. Adriane would have known. So, he was fairly inexperienced with girls as a whole? At least, that's what Adriane assumed. They never discussed intimate details that dealt with relationships. Not physical details. Adriane made sure of that, because she always felt awkward talking about it with Gavin due to her crush on him. How many girls had Gavin even kissed before? He had kissed her so sweetly and yet confidently, it was hard to tell. ”You know, Adriane… If it wasn’t obvious, I liked you too… I just tried to hide it because I thought you were too good to be with the likes of me…” "Gavin, you're not allowed to say things like that okay? The likes of you....you're wonderful. That's what you are, alright?"Adriane took a miniature step close to him, adjusting her hands behind his neck slightly. She tilted her head up to place a sweet kiss upon his lips, before pulling away rather quickly. And then, with a smile, she leaned in and kissed him again for a bit longer. Then, she pulled away lightly. Adriane paused again, biting her lip lightly and looking pretty pleased before a small moment passed and she kissed him again. This was her version of positive reinforcement and avoiding his protest...not that Gavin would protest but for his own modesty.

Gavin wondered what was going to happen now. They couldn’t surely date, could they? With her reputation and all? Since she had plenty of Slytherin friends that Gavin knew didn’t like her. Raven was his go-to… she was an eavesdropper and definitely his ears in the common room. Whenever she heard something that pertained to Adriane… or Gavin, she would tell him. So, therefore, he knew that her friends did not like him. Gavin bit his lip shyly.
”Gavin, you’re not allowed to say things like that okay? The likes of you…you’re wonderful. That’s what you are, alright?”
Gavin simply nodded. A…one nod, to show that he wouldn’t say things like that about himself. But just because he promised that he wouldn’t say… that didn’t mean he couldn’t think about it. Which… he probably would, considering his self-esteem wasn’t the highest. But that wouldn’t stop him.
Just then, Adriane leaned in and kissed him gently. Gavin began to smile, but it was quick and she pulled back. ”So what…” but he was cut off again as she kissed him. His smile grew even more, but then his brow furrowed when she pulled back…. Again! ”does this mean?” but the question was definitely passed over as she kissed him a third time. It wasn’t like he didn’t like it… he just wondered what that meant. She was kissing him… they liked one another… did that mean it was going to be secret? Gavin didn’t look to fondly on that… but if he could consider her his girlfriend in his mind he’d be incredibly happy. His year would be complete.

”So what…”No no. Adriane wasn't having any of this talking business at the moment. Talking just would make things complicated wouldn't it? That was the beginning of a question he was asking. She was sure of it and Adriane was guessing she didn't have the answer to whatever it was. And she most definitely did not have it as her lips pressed to his. Nope. No. Not capable of talking there. At all. Problem solved. And done. Adriane liked to see him smile. And then slightly confused when she pulled away from him, his brow furrowing. She never had "cute" or "playful" interactions with boys. The boys Adriane usually dated were down for the business. You know, the business, not that Adriane had ever given them the business. She may have given them the busine....but not the business. Not the whole thing. That was...Alright, to be totally cliche, Adriane had always somehow pictured herself with Gavin. Someday. Some way. Maybe he would like her and that was for whom she was saving the business! ”does this mean?”Adriane was just going to ignore the question for a few more moments. Maybe Gavin would forget about the question that she was afraid to answer as she didn't know what he wanted and didn't know what he expected. And she felt so happy and didn't want to ruin it or hurt his feelings. She had just waited so long! Can you blame her?! So, instead of doing the polite thing and pulling away to answer his question and act all mature, Adriane avoided it, pressing herself to him and just kissed him. Really kissed him. Plus, she had been waiting to kiss him for 7 years. If things were going to be ruined by talking, she was going to try her hardest to be as happy as she could first.

IGNORED! She was ignoring his question. He just wanted to know… he just… liked to know things. Like what it would mean if they were kissing and hugging and being all friendly-like. Well… technically that was more than friendly… that was more… girlfriend-boyfriendy. And…did that mean… since they were kissing and such… in PUBLIC mind you… that they were dating? What did it mean?! SERIOUSLY! He just wanted Adriane to answer his question…
But no.
She just kissed him.
But… he wasn’t complaining.
Adriane was really kissing him. Like… intensely…like he had never been kissed before. Which was rather ironic, really, considering that he hadn’t ever kissed a girl before like ten minutes ago. Adriane was his first kiss… the only girl he realized that he ever wanted to kiss. And now… she was kissing him… well… more and more. And he liked it. But of course! It was inevitable that he would like being kissed by her. His face turned soft as a smile crossed his lips during the kiss and his eyebrows unfurrowed.
It was really a… pattern? Was that the right word? It was just… the same, over and over and over… not like Gavin minded of course. IT was just… new, and exciting… and Adriane… Oh… Adriane… she was beautiful. And here, kissing him, if that wasn’t obvious enough. Her blue eyes were just… with the dark silky hair… Gavin could have died right there. He was thinking of how nice it was that his thoughts could be uncensored now… because they knew that they liked one another. It wasn’t a pushed aside thought anymore. It was real.
Had he forgotten about his question? No. But he wasn’t going to push it. That wasn’t like him at all… to push things like that. He wasn’t a pusher… he was just… well, there for the most part. Gavin was just used to going along with things whether he wanted to or not. He was definitely the ‘wallflower’ type…

Okay so moments ago Adriane was fuming from class. She was on the verge of a breakdown. Then, she was being approached by her best friend who she was rude to. Then, she was breaking down and telling him secrets she had never divulged to anyone before. Then he was kissing her and then she was confessing her feelings. And then she was kissing him, but it was different than when she kissed other guys. How so? Well, Gavin wasn't....Gavin just wasn't that guy. He wasn't grabbing her or groping her or being too forward and trying to see how far back her tonsils were in her mouth. Adriane wasn't quite used to this. Boys...they just...they took advantage of her as much as they could. But, they weren't her friends and didn't know all of her secrets or her family or her likes and dislikes. Gavin knew everything about her that one could know. Well, not everything but more than anyone else in either world. And that made him all the more attractive to her. And with respect to that, Adriane backed off, pulling away from him gently. Well, her mouth. The rest of her stayed put and she opened her eyes to look up into his, a resigned sigh escaping through her nose. "I don't....know. You fully kissed me first. You tell me what you think," she said, now adjusting her arms around his neck so she could hug him gently. This was most certainly worth a seven year wait. Well worth it. Adriane kissed him gently on his jaw and then his neck once before burying her head in his shoulder lightly and blushing. Yes, things with Gavin felt brand new.

This was… just like… magic. Well, that was an understatement. Gavin knew what magic felt like… and this was better than that. It was better than casting a patronus for the first time, and better than facing your boggart and ridikulus’ing it into oblivion. Well… then the only thing Gavin had left to say… being there with Adriane… and all it’s… accompaniment… was better than Defense Against the Dark Arts. His favorite, favorite class. And he didn’t like anything more than that class. Well… except for Adriane, now. Gavin smiled internally at these thoughts… glad that he wasn’t a total nut for basically only liking school…
But then Adriane pulled away. To this, Gavin opened his eyes up and raised an eyebrow… confused. He wasn’t sure why she was stopping now… was this a teasing thing? That’s what girls did, wasn’t it? They teased you to make you want it more? Well, it was working, but Gavin wasn’t about to act on his feelings. He wasn’t like that… if that wasn’t already obvious, like most things that had been repeated in this thread…
”I don’t… know. You fully kissed me first. You tell me what you think.”
What he thought? He didn’t even know what she was saying at this moment. Oh… wait. Yes, he did. Gavin had asked her what the kissing meant… But why did he have to say what he thought first? How was that fair? Well, it wasn’t. But being the accommodating guy that Gavin was, of course he would give in to her. She was his best friend, wasn’t she? ”Well...” Well what? Go on…! ”Well, you’d have to keep anything we did secret, wouldn’t you?” Gavin reaaaaaaly didn’t want to go there. Especially now… as Adriane kissed his jaw! And then his… neck… Gavin felt the recently deceased color revert back to its state on his cheeks. ”Because aside from that… I would totally…” A smile formed on his lips as Adriane put her head to his shoulder… and the next part… he said rather fast and unintelligibly… so it is up to Adriane’s creator if Adriane understood his random, okay not random, mumblings. ”wannabeeeyourboyfriendorwhatever.” Yeah, Gavin was one of those guys.
